New Zealand North Island Tour (12 days)
Great Divide Tours has been taking tours to the South Island of New Zealand since 2010. We pioneered this type of 4WD Tagalong Tour from Australia. This is possible because we teamed up with New Zealand’s premier 4wd tour guide Steve Beston. Steve has access to areas that no-one else can venture.
In 2025 I asked my clients on the South Island trip if they thought a North Island Tagalong would be of interest, I received sufficient interest to then ask Steve if he could put a trip together for me as he not only lives in the North Island but has an intimate knowledge of the area.
He has developed a fabulous itinerary which concentrates on the area south of Auckland reaching down to the thermal area of Rotorua and out to both the dramatic west and east coastlines. You will fly into Auckland and make your way to the motel we have booked for you on arrival, after meeting Steve and your Great Divide Tours guide (Vic Widman), the next day we collect our hire 4WD's which Steve has arranged for us, usually consisting of late model Prado, Ford Everest or Mitsubishi Pajeros. All very comfortable vehicles to drive. The next 10 days Steve will lead us on an very scenic trip that whilst not fully off road, it will take you to those hidden out of the way locations that Steve knows exist. Reading the itinerary you will see this is going to be quite an adventure, not only from the driving perspective but also the adventure aspect, with a rail cart tour, jet boat and a boat trip across a thermal pool all included.
Whilst much of this area is new to me (Vic) I have experienced the thermal pool area and it is excellent, along with the Taupo and Rotorua districts and can assure you this is a beautiful part of the world. Refund Policy
Great Divide Tours reserves the right to cancel or alter any tour or course at any time. Great Divide Tours will determine if any refund is due if this action occurs.
In the event of you canceling a booking the following refund policy applies. Deposits are non refundable. If your booking can be reallocated to another participant then the deposit can be transferred to another tour of your choice which must be taken within 18 months of the original booked tour. The full tour fee is payable 4 weeks prior to the tour and is not refundable after this time. You should consider taking out Travel Insurance to cover any unforeseen circumstances including illness, vehicle problems or family matters.
